Whitecoast

THE LOVE OF DYRO AND AYVIN
by Laura Mattas

Before the birth of the stars, there was only the two lovers, the great sun, Dyro and beautiful moon, Ayvin. Many a night did they wander the cosmos together until Dyro found a land, grander than any before it could compare, even he could not bring himself to stray from it. He found entertainment in the inhabitants there and circled the planet trying to see all that the beings would do. Ayvin trying to keep up fell into a slower pace behind her love, and grew tired and neglected from Dyro’s never-ceasing fascination of the beings. In a final act of desperation, Ayvin turned herself into the first being she saw, a woman awaiting her husband’s return from the long day at sea. Onto the shores of a nearby coast she fell. bound in her mortal form, she was resplendent, long spirals of curls in the lightest blonde, eyes of pale blue, and adorned in a long shimmering white gown, she walked among the likes of men, a revered queen. Despite the people’s desperate attempts to please her, sorrow filled her heart for she missed her love, Dyro. Every Night she would walk up and down the beaches tears of silver streaming out behind her, until her tears replaced the sand. Inconsolable she went to the cliff where she had first saw the women, and asked her how she should make it through the day without her love at her side. The woman thought hard and answered simply, that over many a vast distance, she can still feel his love in her heart. Dyro searched frantically for his love, and shortly found a beach on the island to be glittering with magnificence. She sat upon a rock looking up at his magnificent face and with a giant leap, jumped back into the sky, rejoining him. The coast she lived in prospered and was given the name of WhiteCoast for whenever Avyin’s face should turn to the silver beaches they would glow with intangible awe reflecting her beauty.
